WELCOME!

Welcome to the BVSC Youth Squad page, here you will find all there is to know about the BVSC Youth Squad and how to get involved.

What is the BVSC Youth Squad?

The BVSC Youth Squad is a group of youth sailors who want to sail regularly for fun, to improve their skills and to race. It is run by ex-Olympic Transitional Squad sailor Jonny Moss and aims to give top level coaching to improve the skills of and to inspire the next generation of sailors. Youth Squad is run on Saturdays  and Wednesday evenings.

What is involved in a typical Youth Squad day or evening?

Saturday Youth Squad:

We aim to meet rigged and changed at 9:30 in the upstairs curtained area. We encourage sailors to get down at around 9:00 so they can rig their boat or their hired boat with enough time to get changed after rigging. After a morning briefing and a welcome for new members, we head out for a great morning of training on the water! The morning session finishes around 12:30 for a de-brief and lunch.

We encourage our sailors to join in with the racing as they still get coaching and it is great fun, even if you have never competed before!

Wednesday Youth Squad:

We aim to meet rigged and changed at 18:00 in the curtained area upstairs in the club, which usually means getting to the club at about 17:30. After a short briefing, we go for a sail, have fun and learn lots. We come off the water at about 19:30 for a finish and debrief at 20:00.

What do I need to join the Youth Squad?

All you need before you can join Youth Squad is RYA Stage 2. If you do not have a boat, you can hire one of ours on a first come first served basis.
