RYA Instructor Training

Pre Entry Assessment

Before being accepted into an instructor training course, candidates need to pass an assessment of sailing skills. Full details and description are in G14 National Sailing Scheme Instructor Handbook.

Dinghy Instructor Training and Assessment

The instructor is a competent, experienced sailor capable of sailing a training boat in strong winds and handling small powerboats. A qualified instructor will have been assessed as competent to teach adults and children, beginners and improvers as individuals or in small groups and will always work under the supervision of an RYA Senior instructor.

Assistant Instructor Training

The role of the Assistant Instructor is to assist qualified instructors to teach beginners courses up to and including Level 2 - Basic Skills in the National Sailing Scheme and Stage 3 of the Youth Sailing Scheme.

Race Coach Level 2

A qualified RYA Level 2 Racing Coach is a good club racer with personal knowledge of club and/or regional racing and a broad basis of coaching skills. They will be able to deliver and award Start, Intermediate and Advanced Racing where appropriate, working at affiliated clubs or recognised training centres.’
