Our Environmental policy
Our Mission Statement
Bewl Valley Sailing Club is dedicated in introducing and maintaining a programme that enables the club and its surrounding land to become a Sustainable and Eco friendly environment.
Our objectives in the office
• We will be aware of the consumption of materials within our general office operations.
• We will recycle paper, ink cartridges etc.
• We will think about the necessity of printing documents and the postage involved.
• We will become more aware of our energy consumption by regular monitoring.
Our objectives throughout the club & beach
• We will recycle everything that we are able to do including composting
• We will have separate bins well labelled to advise all of the above to our members
• We will encourage all age groups to be an advocate in promoting this lifestyle
• As old light bulbs expire we will replace them with energy efficient ones
• We will introduce “turning of lights” posters to display in prominent places throughout the club house
• The same with taps
• We will make the showers more efficient by regular cleaning.
Our objectives in the catering department
• To source local foods using our local farming and fruit community so lowering our carbon footprint
• To advertise the carbon footprint of each meal
• To advertise & label where foods have come from
• To promote a well balanced menu with a healthy and vegetarian option
• To offer seasonal produce so keeping prices down
• To advertise the above on the website, menus, blackboards on the beach
• To recycle all packaging etc in the way the club has stated above
Our objectives in the boat park
• To aim to have compost bins in all boat parks for grass clippings etc from individuals maintaining their own boat spaces
• To encourage an organic method to maintaining weeds etc in their space
The Way Forward
• To approach our waste contractor regarding recycling.
• To introduce new and well labelled bins to co-inside with the recycling we can do.
• To organise compost bins for each boat park.
• To put together a fact sheet as to how to run an organic boat space.
• To locate local fruit, vegetables and meat suppliers.
• To promote and advertise local farmers within the Beaver and Website
• To be committed in achieving 100% email addresses from our members so reducing as much printing and paper as we can
• For the website and notice boards to publicise our environmental commitment and promote sustainability.
• To publicise our energy usage in the form of displayed graphs
Critical Success Factors to be taken in 6 months time
• To look at how the bins are used throughout the summer
• To look at boat parks and compost areas, any improvement?
• To look at the numbers of email addresses gained
• How much correspondence was sent out using paper and printing
• How many light bulbs have been replaced.
• What have been the catering numbers for each meal.
• How many local farmers are now being used.
• Compare monthly energy readings
