Sunday Racing Report ….. 2nd December
Congratulations to Geoff and Jim for winning the Pioneer Series which was completed last weekend. Eight races were sailed, two weekends were so windy that only the totally dedicated ventured out and one weekend provided a total drift around in the sunshine . Even so fourteen boats raced at some point in the Series.
Today we started the Winterblaster; with the cancellation of December 30th this will be six races over three weekends, four races to count.
The weather today provided a pleasant change from the conditions described above, plenty of sunshine and winds of Force two or three NW. The course for the first short race XWM42N, all to port apart from M, gave us three reaches , a beat, a spinnaker run and a spinnaker reach. Seven boats competed and although there were periods when the race became a bit of a procession the windshifts and large holes where the wind seemed to disappear completely kept the helms on their toes. First home were Paddy and Amanda ,followed by Robin and Gio and then Jo and Anne.
The second race followed a similar format ,apart from a certain excitement generated when some of those at the front did not realise that N was no longer a mark of the course. Eric and Bill chose their moment to cut the corner and pick up a slice of wind that took them from the middle of the fleet up to the serious contender category. From then on things only got better for them and they ended up first over the line with Geoff and Jim second and Jo and Anne third.
We were pleasantly surprised by and appreciative of Alex with the tractor waiting to drag us up the slipway at the end of the race. Gio was particularly pleased as it allowed her plenty time to get ready for her afternoon shift as a Lapland Elf; she was hoping that after her dedicated efforts on Saturday, she might get promoted to working in Mother Christmas`s Kitchen.
Finally, thanks to Dan as Deputy Race Officer.
