Mariners of Bewl MOB

Mariners of Bewl (MOB) has joined BVSC en masse.

MOB, the integrated sailing club operating on Saturdays from the Race Box area is now fully integrated into BVSC, much as the Flying Fifteen fleet and the windsurfers at Bewl.

MOB was founded in 1988 - our 20th Anniversary this year, when a trimiran from BVSC was used to help disabled people to sail fell into disuse for many reasons. A current BVSC member however could see a charitable use for this craft and the trimiran was moved to the Bewl Outdoor Education Centre (BOEC).

MOB was formed, grew, became a charity, and continued to sail from the BOEC end until 1996 when Southern Water (great supporters of MOB) enticed us back to the BVSC end by creating a boat parking area by the Race Box with improved wheelchair access, close to disabled loos and easier boat launching.

MOB thrived, our fleet continued to grow and be changed, our membership grew, but most importantly our aims, "to promote integration through the enjoyment of sailing" remained unchanged and still remains unchanged, then and now.

In 2006/7 the news around Bewl caused us to stop and think about our future plans and although I won't go into the details it has ended up with MOB joining BVSC in what can only be described as a win win move.

BVSC gains a disabled sailing fleet, an avenue to raise funds through MOB's charitable standing and an additional 30+ members. MOB gains the support and power of BVSC, access to BVSC social and racing events.
