SAILING PROGRAMME NOTES

Sailing Instructions

All dinghy races will be sailed in accordance with the current RRS and the current BVSC Sailing Instructions. Windsurfing racing will be sailed in accordance with

UKWA and the current BVSC Windsurfing Sailing Instructions. Copies of the Sl’s are available from the Race Box

Adopted Classes

Classes are adopted by the Club, at the discretion of the Sailing Sub Committee, and may have a separate start in specified series and regattas. Starts may be combined.

Discards

The following table will be used for all BVSC events unless otherwise stated:

There will not be a requirement to sail a minimum number of races to qualify for a series. Un-sailed races to count in the series will be scored at the number of competitors in the series plus 1.

Series Racing

The Club runs Series racing for both Windsurfers and Dinghies throughout the year.

Dinghies: There are starts for Fast Handicap, Laser, Solo, Enterprise, Slow Handicap and Flying Fifteen. There are two races in the morning and afternoon for all fleets except the Flying Fifteen fleet which has only one race in the morning and afternoon. During the winter months of November to February there is only one race in the afternoon for all fleets.

The main season runs from April to October and includes Spring, Early Summer, Mid Summer, Late Summer and Autumn Series. The morning series are designated ‘A’ and start at 10:40. The afternoon series are designated ‘B’ and start at 14:00.

The winter season runs from November to March and includes the Pioneer, Frostbite, Winter Blaster, Brass Monkey and Spring Thaw Open Series. The first start is at 10:40 in the mornings and at 14:00 in the afternoons.

Details of PY ranges for the handicap fleets are available from the office or race box, but generally the Slow Handicap fleet includes boats that have a PY of 1091+

Arrangements may change to meet circumstances and these changes shall be shown on the official Race Notice Board.

Windsurfers: Saturday series: Bewl Windsurfing Spring Series, Wet’n’Dry Boardsports Summer Series and Whitstable Windsurfing Winter Series for Unlimited, 7.5m (max), Formula Windsurfing, Slalom and Speed when conditions permit: results for Unlimited, 7.5m, Formula Windsurfing, Slalom, Speed , Junior and Lady. Ask for a copy of full "Race Guidelines".

Open meetings

There are various Open Events for Adopted and Handicap Classes interspersed with the Series Racing throughout the seasons. Windsurfers run various Open Events interspersed with their Series Racing.

The calendar shows when these will occur in CAPITALS.

Other Racing Events

The Club organises a number of events for Club members. These are listed in the calendar in bold print. Full details of these events are included in the Notice of Race that is posted on the Notice Board in advance of the event and a copy is kept in office. The events are also advertised in the Beaver.

Super Sundays

On the first Sunday of each series the races that day will also be considered as a separate one-day event. All races count towards the final results. There will be prize giving at the end of the day for the winners of the event. This will not affect the series racing results, which will be computed in the normal way.
